Morro Fino, located in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, is a restaurant that captures the welcoming, lively and laid-back character of traditional beer bars in southern Spain, reinterpreting it through a contemporary lens.
The interior design project, developed by Bruno Bermúdez and Adrián Gómez from the MisterWils interior design team, is built around a clear vision: to create a distinctive space where traditional hospitality meets contemporary design.
Natural wood, green ceramic tiles, metal structures and warm lighting come together to create an inviting, vibrant and functional atmosphere.
The bar takes centre stage, becoming the focal point around which much of the dining experience revolves. Surrounding it, standard-height tables, high tables and bar stools offer different ways to enjoy the restaurant, from a casual beer to a leisurely meal followed by relaxed conversation.
3 main objectives
Before defining the materials, lighting and furniture, the Morro Fino project was developed around three main objectives:
Capture the essence of traditional beer bars in southern Spain, incorporating familiar materials and a layout designed to encourage a welcoming, informal and lively atmosphere.
Create a versatile and functional restaurant, where the bar, high tables and dining area accommodate different dining experiences while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Establish a cohesive visual identity, connecting the interior and outdoor terrace through a consistent palette of materials and colours, with green playing a central role.
Tradition Reimagined
Morro Fino captures the spirit of traditional beer bars with a contemporary, functional and welcoming design. Its layout combines standard-height tables, high tables and bar stools, catering to different ways of enjoying food and drink.
The Bar as the Focal Point
The bar takes centre stage in the interior, with its wooden frontage, green ceramic tiles and metal shelving. Bottles and glassware reinforce its distinctive character, while nearby seating encourages a relaxed and lively atmosphere.
Connecting the Interior and Terrace
Green creates visual continuity between the dining area and the outdoor terrace, designed as a natural extension of the restaurant. A lightweight structure provides shade while maintaining a connection with the street.
Materials with Character
Ceramic tiles add texture and shine; wood brings warmth; and metal introduces an industrial touch. White and green tones create a balanced colour scheme, while the slatted wooden ceiling adds visual rhythm and enhances the overall welcoming atmosphere.
Our team found the right solutions
The MisterWils interior design team designed Morro Fino as a functional, welcoming space with a distinctive identity, bringing together layout, materials, lighting and furniture. The flexible layout combines tables of different heights with a variety of seating options to accommodate different uses and times of day.
The bar anchors the design, combining wood, green ceramic tiles and metal shelving that adds a sense of lightness while incorporating bottles and glassware into the décor. In the dining area, the slatted wooden ceiling and natural materials balance the industrial character of the metal structures.
The lighting scheme combines integrated architectural lighting with suspended spherical pendant lights, whose warm glow enhances the inviting atmosphere. On the terrace, green furniture creates a visual connection with the interior, while a lightweight structure provides shade without compromising the open feel towards the street.
Every piece of furniture and lighting selected by MisterWils contributes to a cohesive design in which aesthetics and functionality work seamlessly together.
At Morro Fino, We Deliberately Avoided:
An overload of materials and colours: a carefully defined palette of wood, ceramic tiles, metal, glass, white and green maintains visual consistency.
A rigid layout: the combination of standard-height tables, high tables and bar stools allows for different dining experiences within the same restaurant.
A disconnect between the interior and terrace: green tones and consistent furniture choices create a seamless connection between the two spaces.
Uniform lighting lacking character: pendant lights and warm lighting help define different areas and create a more welcoming atmosphere.
Losing the traditional character: the prominent bar and carefully selected materials draw inspiration from the traditional beer bars of southern Spain, reinterpreted through a contemporary aesthetic.
These are the key decisions behind the final result:
A visually striking bar. Its wooden cladding, green ceramic tiles and metal shelving create a distinctive focal point that defines much of the restaurant’s character.
A variety of table and seating options. The combination of standard-height tables, high tables and bar stools allows the space to accommodate different dining experiences, bringing flexibility and energy to the layout.
Green as a unifying element. Featured in the ceramic tiles and outdoor furniture, green visually connects the dining area and terrace, reinforcing the restaurant’s identity.
Natural wood for warmth and balance. Used throughout the interior, it softens the metal and ceramic finishes while creating a welcoming atmosphere.
A slatted wooden ceiling. This design feature introduces texture and visual rhythm, making the ceiling an integral part of the interior design.
Warm, decorative lighting. Suspended spherical pendant lights complement the architectural lighting, helping to create distinct atmospheres throughout the restaurant.
An open, connected terrace. The lightweight structure provides shade without separating the terrace from the street, while the green furniture maintains visual continuity with the interior.
Every restaurant teaches us something different.
Morro Fino demonstrates how a carefully curated selection of materials, a clearly defined colour palette and a versatile layout can transform a traditional hospitality concept into a contemporary space.
Green ceramic tiles and natural wood bring character to the interior without the need for excessive decorative elements.
Similarly, the prominent bar and combination of different table styles make it possible to create a variety of dining experiences within the same venue.
The project also highlights the importance of treating indoor and outdoor areas as part of a cohesive design, using furniture and finishes to create visual continuity.
A Beer Bar with a Distinctive Identity.
The result is a restaurant that blends tradition with contemporary design, where the bar, materials and furniture come together to create a welcoming, lively and distinctive atmosphere.
Morro Fino captures the spirit of traditional beer bars in southern Spain while embracing a modern, thoughtfully designed and functional aesthetic.
Green ceramic tiles, natural wood and warm lighting bring balance to a space designed for relaxed dining, whether at the bar, in the dining area or on the terrace.
An interior design project by MisterWils that demonstrates how thoughtful design can reinterpret traditional hospitality spaces and adapt them to the evolving ways people enjoy them.
