Clemencia: a private space where you can relax and enjoy yourself at your own pace
At Clemencia, design, natural materials and fine dining come together to create a space designed for sharing, relaxing and enjoying oneself.
Project overview
Location: Tomares (Seville).
Area: approximately 250 m² across the indoor dining room and covered terrace.
Capacity: approximately 140 guests.
Project duration: around 7 months.
Walkway widths: circulation aisles of 120–150 cm.
Style: contemporary Mediterranean, with limewashed walls, natural fibres and a central fountain.

Clemencia, located in Tomares, Seville, is a restaurant designed to allow guests to enjoy fine dining in an intimate, serene and welcoming setting, full of natural touches. The space combines Mediterranean and contemporary aesthetics, where the whitewashed walls, organic shapes, natural fibres and the large central fountain create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
3 main objectives
Before choosing the furniture, Clemencia had three clear objectives that shaped the entire project:
- To make a restaurant seating around 140 guests feel intimate and relaxed, rather than like a large, high-capacity dining room.
- To create two distinct settings in the indoor dining area and covered terrace, while connecting them through the same sense of calm and natural warmth.
- To ensure the furniture could withstand intensive daily use while retaining its natural appearance over time, all within a tight project timeline of around 7 months.
Creating privacy without building partition walls.
The client wanted each table to offer its own experience within an open dining room. This was achieved with continuous banquette seating that creates groups and visually divides the space, a central fountain that naturally separates different areas, and pendant lights that “lower the ceiling” above each table.
Seating 140 guests without feeling crowded.
Circulation aisles of 120–150 cm allow staff and guests to move comfortably even when the restaurant is full, avoiding the feeling of tightly packed tables. The banquette layout also makes effective use of the perimeter without overcrowding the centre of the dining room.
A peaceful atmosphere even when the restaurant is full.
The natural fibres used in the chairs, woven wicker ceilings and lampshades, together with the lime finishes and textiles, absorb some of the noise and soften the acoustics of the dining room.
Comfort for long, leisurely meals — “no rush”.
This is the promise behind the restaurant’s very name. That is why large upholstered banquettes and fibre chairs with enveloping seats were prioritised, encouraging guests to linger comfortably at the table.
A terrace exposed to outdoor conditions.
The covered terrace requires pieces that can withstand humidity and changes in temperature. Outdoor-friendly woven-fibre chairs and ceramic tables were therefore chosen, as they offer greater resistance than untreated wood while adding colour to the space.
Our team found the right solutions
Designed by the MisterWils interior design team, the project is divided between a spacious indoor dining room dominated by earthy tones and greys, contrasted by green tiling, and a welcoming covered terrace outside, where a fountain divides the space. Two distinct settings connected by the same idea: making every corner comfortable, versatile and full of character. MisterWils furniture plays a key role in creating the sense of balance and natural warmth that defines the entire restaurant.
Inside, natural wood tables with metal structures take centre stage — teak MAYER and TULUM tabletops and acacia KORITA tabletops paired with bases such as TAPIES and OWEN — accompanied by wood and fibre chairs (such as the BELINDA WOODEN CHAIR and the VIVIAN ROPE AND METAL CHAIR) and continuous banquette seating that adds dynamism to the space and allows different groups to be created. The neutral tones and soft lines of the furniture work perfectly with the warm, carefully defined lighting.
The lime finishes on the walls, featuring ethnic-inspired motifs echoed in the artwork, complement the woven wicker ceilings. Pendant lights above the tables add texture, warmth and a pleasant ambient glow that transforms the atmosphere of the restaurant from day to night.
The terrace retains the same welcoming feel as the interior, but with a fresher, more relaxed atmosphere. Here, large upholstered banquettes, woven-fibre chairs and ceramic tables in shades of green (such as the BIERTAN CERAMIC AND METAL TABLETOP) bring colour and character to the overall design. Plants and textile coverings filter the natural light and create attractive patterns of light and shade, making the space perfect for relaxing and enjoying every moment at your own pace.
At Clemencia, we deliberately avoided:
- Squeezing tables together to increase the number of covers: circulation aisles of 120–150 cm were maintained to preserve a sense of calm even at full capacity.
- Building partition walls to create privacy: this was achieved through banquette seating, the central fountain and zoned lighting, keeping the dining room open and bright.
- Uniform, cold lighting: warm pendant lighting above each table was chosen to create a welcoming atmosphere.
- Untreated wood on the terrace: ceramic surfaces and outdoor-suitable fibres were selected to prevent deterioration.
- Too many different materials: a restrained, cohesive palette (wood, natural fibres, lime, ceramic, earthy tones and green) allows the overall design to breathe.
These are the key decisions behind the final result:
- Continuous banquette seating instead of more individual chairs. It creates groups and more intimate areas within an open dining room, makes effective use of the perimeter and helps staff serve each table without having to move chairs. It is key to creating privacy without partition walls.
- Tables with teak tops and metal structures. Teak withstands intensive use and humidity well, while the tabletop can be sanded and refinished over time; the metal base provides stability. It is a combination designed specifically for hospitality settings, not just for decorative purposes.
- Fibre and rope chairs with durable frames. They provide the natural warmth the project calls for, are lightweight (important for staff who need to move them every day), and the fibres add texture while also helping to improve the acoustics.
- Ceramic tables on the terrace. In a covered terrace exposed to outdoor conditions, ceramic withstands humidity and frequent cleaning better than untreated wood, while adding the green tones that give the outdoor space its distinctive character.
- Warm pendant lighting above each table. Instead of uniform lighting, each table has its own fibre pendant lamp: it defines the space, encourages guests to linger and transforms the restaurant’s atmosphere from day to night.
Every restaurant teaches us something different.
At Clemencia, we found that combining continuous banquette seating, upholstered and natural-fibre chairs, and warm lighting above each table creates small pockets of privacy without the need for physical partitions. The result is a dining room that feels visually open and bright while offering guests a much more intimate experience. We also confirmed that maintaining generous circulation widths — around 120–150 cm — is essential to delivering on the promise of “enjoying every moment at your own pace”, even when the restaurant is full.

The result is a well-balanced and harmonious restaurant, where every piece of furniture helps to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
