We see it in magazine editorials, on our Instagram feed, on Pinterest and in our favorite stores: the Eco-Friendly style, characterized by the use of natural and sustainable materials, is in fashion. And there’s a good reason for it: thanks to it, we take care of the planet, but, in addition, we benefit from the beauty and serenity that organic raw materials such as cotton, wool, wood, alpaca, bamboo… transmit.
Eco-Friendly pieces, the perfect complement to Nordic, Japanese, Exotic and Wabi-Sabi styles.
The Yotam chair is the perfect example of this. Its rounded shapes and untreated wood bring us closer to nature and fit wonderfully in this trend, which dresses both Nordic style spaces as Japandi or Wabi-Sabi.

The exotic look also gains in importance when it makes use of pieces made with these materials. The Ribble ceiling lamp, for example, made of natural rattan, provides the perfect ethnic touch for a tropical atmosphere. Of course, we must combine it with LED bulbs, the ones that use less energy and, therefore, the most environmentally friendly.

In fact, an Eco-Friendly home is also an energy efficient home, so it will always have A+++ appliances, which have a consumption of less than 25%, and will be optimized to minimize the use of resources through other mechanisms, such as sensors or programmers.
Furniture that follows the 3R rule
But let’s go back to the decoration: beyond the actual appearance and textures of the pieces of this style, which always bring warmth to the space, what convinces Eco-Friendly style enthusiasts is that their raw materials are completely recyclable. That is, they follow one of the rules of the 3 R’s, the basic key to take care of the planet: recycle, reduce and reuse.
So, furniture made from reused materials is another of the stars of this trend. This is the case, for example with the Castel buffet sideboard, made from recycled pine wood. This, in addition to being beneficial to the Earth, adds character and charisma to the handcrafted piece: each one is unique.

Goodbye to toxic elements in the home
The Eco-Friendly decorative style also seeks to eliminate toxic elements in household objects, opting whenever possible for organic dyes and varnishes, but also, dispensing with other less obvious ‘enemies’ of health, such as textiles from artificial materials, whose particles become microplastics that we end up breathing every day.
“Although society is increasingly aware of the widespread presence in the environment of hazardous man-made chemicals, very few people are fully aware that many of these same substances are used as additives in the consumer products we buy and use in the home every day,” reads the report Consuming Chemistry, published by Greenpeace and the University of Exeter, which pointed to the hazardous elements found in household dust as indicators of chemical exposure at home.

“From carpets and curtains to toys and televisions, from computers and printers to cosmetics and perfumes, chemical additives are a hidden fact of modern life: they rarely appear on labels and are never visible, but they are almost always there,” the text continued.
Authoritative sources, such as the specialized website Hogar Sin Tóxicos – behind which is the environmental expert Carlos de Prada – propose concrete solutions to achieve the most Eco-Friendly and healthy home possible. For example, use cork insulation instead of foam or rock wool; choose natural floors instead of synthetic ones; carry out an intense washing of carpets to reduce the presence of problematic substances; use beeswax candles or opt for ecological and homemade cleaners.
Plants, the best allies of the Eco-Friendly style
These experts also say that ventilating the house and incorporating plants such as ivy or ficus in it is an excellent remedy to purify the air. And not only that: these plant elements will also bring a cozy touch to the home, in addition to marrying beautifully with pieces like Clement, an ethnic style bench made of solid mango wood with a natural braided rope seat, which can be the perfect support for our particular interior jungle.
