In a world dominated by image and social media, where aesthetics are more important than ever, using charming table accessories has become especially relevant. So much so that the term tablescaping (and its associated hashtag on Pinterest and Instagram) is becoming increasingly relevant.

The concept refers to the action of decorating the table trying to make it become a real landscape, a feast for the senses even before the food is served. The term, in fact comes from the union of the words table and landscaping, and although today it shines brightly all over the world, it was coined in 2003 by the American television chef Sandra Lee

In the United States, however, this art has been registered since 1930, even in the form of contests, in which judges evaluate both the proper placement of glassware, crockery and cutlery and creativity in the interpretation of a particular theme.

The hashtag #tablescaping (and its analogues #tabledecor and #tablesetting, or in Spanish, #decoraciondemesa and its derivatives) can also refer to the decoration of a console, a coffee table or a side table. Therefore, it is clear that we must go beyond the tableware and not leave to chance the style of the chairs and lamps that, among other elements, will also become essential table accessories in our creations.

Table accessories: a daily commitment to beauty

Worrying about the styling of the table only at “special” moments is clearly a mistake. Of course, we are not saying that you should bring out the gold-rimmed plates every day, or that you should make an effort on any Monday to compose a super flashy floral centerpiece; simply that you should take the time to think about whether the place where you eat several times a day, or the console table that welcomes you every time you enter your home, generates happiness for you.

If this is not the case, it can certainly be fixed by betting on table accessories that you particularly like, even if they are clearly informal. A vase with buds picked during a walk in the countryside, for example, will brighten your sight and smell every time you sit down to eat.

The mini vase Bettina, glass designer Bettina Schori, based in Copenhagen, can be a great bet. It is sold in the Madrid craft store Hecho, and is made of recycled glass with the perfect blowing to get that drop shape that brings us closer to nature and reminds us of the sinuous minimalism, so fashionable.

Another must for a happy and meaningful table? The simple and beautiful tablecloths by Verdonce, the first sustainable brand from Madrid that uses 100% recycled cotton (recovered from landfills) to create its hand-woven pieces. Their casual and serene beauty, moreover, is woven thanks to the talent of women seamstresses at risk of exclusion.

In addition to these details, there are other less obvious table accessories that, nevertheless, have a huge weight in the decoration of both your home and the tablescaping you want to create on special days. We are talking, of course, about the lighting and the seating, two components to which you will have to adapt the styling of your table.

Lighting, one more table accessory

Lighting is also a basic table accessory. An overhead lamp hanging over the tabletop will not only add a delightful sculptural air; it will also enhance the dining experience with its pleasant light, which will spread to every corner of the surface.

To achieve this, you can opt for the Tossy ceiling lamp, Nordic style, with lampshade made of natural rope. Its real and bare materials will bring to the dining room a wonderful warm touch, while its simple lines assure us that it will combine with everything..

If you prefer a more diffused lighting, the Absolut ceiling lamp will be your ally. Industrial style, this piece shaped like a cage or beehive is made of metal grid, with a mesh finish that sifts the light and offers a more intimate atmosphere.

Chairs, stools and armchairs, essential table accessories

Whether for an everyday lunch or a formal dinner, it is clear that there is one table accessory you will always need: chairs! These will also mark the style of your creation, since it makes little sense, for example, to design a high-top décor and fine china if you plan to surround it with plastic folding chairs.

So make sure you don’t forget the pieces to seat your guests on when setting the table. And if the ones you have don’t fit what you want to create, look for new ideas!

For a relaxed summer gathering under the porch, there is nothing like ensuring the relaxation of your guests, which will also affect the tone of the conversation. Opt for comfortable, wide armchairs with armrests like Malawi, in beautiful Mediterranean style.

It is made of natural rattan fiber, with a wooden structure, and ensures a touch both warm and exotic at the same time unrepeatable. You can easily combine it both with table accessories for an informal decoration – just with a table runner, or even with placemats made of organic fabrics – and with an elegant but rustic style, where flowers abound.

The Freya wood and rope chair, on the other hand, calls for a casual tablescaping in which both Mediterranean and Nordic style pieces fit. With its structure made of solid acacia wood and the seat and backrest woven in white braided rope, we imagine it equally at home around a table dressed with colorful tableware from the historic Italian artisan company Assunta Positano or surrounded by table accessories from the Danish company Ferm Living, always sober and discreet.

There is also another way to bring nature into the decoration of a bar or restaurant: embrace the Eco-Friendly trend, characterized by the use of natural and sustainable materials. If you incorporate it in your premises, do not forget to include a piece of recycled wood such as the Staten dining table, which also brings texture and character to the interior design thanks to its marks and irregularities.

Its elegant Mid Century lines are inspired by the iconic Chandigarh chair, designed by the great Pierre Jeanneret for the city of the same name and designed by Le Corbusier in India in 1951. Therefore, nothing like combining it with a unique table accessory: the Chandigarh dinnerware, designed by Cassina and the Italian porcelain manufacturer Ginori 1735. It pays homage to the delicate symbols that the architect left engraved on the city’s buildings.
