Style: warm and welcoming, with Mediterranean and Mid-Century influences; an earthy colour palette featuring terracotta tones.

In the heart of Osuna, just a few steps from the Convent of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, you’ll find Matacandela Restaurant. Its owners have devoted their lives to the hospitality industry, and their passion for gastronomy is reflected in every aspect of the restaurant.

To renovate the interior, they entrusted the project to the MisterWils interior design team. The result is an intimate, light-filled space, thoughtfully designed down to the smallest detail, where the colour palette, decorative features and carefully selected furniture come together to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere full of character.

3 main objectives

Matacandela is a very small restaurant—just 35 m² of indoor space with seating for around 25–30 guests—but its culinary ambitions are anything but small. This shaped the project’s three main objectives:

Make the most of every square metre without compromising comfort or the intimate atmosphere.
Create a space that feels warm, welcoming and intimate, matching the standards of a fine dining restaurant.
Ensure the interior design lived up to the menu: carefully curated, full of character and thoughtful details, without feeling cluttered.

Making the most of just 35 m².

The main challenge was to fit a fine dining restaurant for 25–30 guests into a very compact interior without making it feel cramped or impersonal. The solution combined a warm palette of earthy and terracotta tones, lightweight furniture with clean lines, and carefully chosen decorative details that give every corner its own character, making the most of every square metre.

When the menu is exceptional, the setting has to be as well. Every detail was carefully considered—from upholstered chairs and handcrafted ceramic tabletops to the decorative accessories—so that the visual experience would complement the culinary one.

In a small restaurant, every table matters, but squeezing in too many would have destroyed the sense of intimacy. The layout was designed to strike the right balance, maximising the available space while ensuring guest comfort and allowing staff to move around easily.

Preserving the natural light. The restaurant benefits from abundant natural light, and maintaining it was essential. Warm colours and natural materials enhance the light streaming in through the beautiful front window and entrance door, rather than diminishing it.

Our team found the right solutions

The exterior, with its beautiful window and elegant entrance door, invites visitors into a small open-plan space where every detail makes a difference. Inside, the carefully selected furniture creates a warm and distinctive atmosphere: Mid-Century-inspired upholstered chairs in warm tones—such as the BAYTON UPHOLSTERED CHAIR in terracotta, brick and curry, featuring an upholstered seat and a wooden frame with a woven rattan backrest—paired with tables topped with handcrafted ceramic tabletops (the MICAELA WOOD AND CERAMIC TABLETOP) supported by DOBLE FERRO metal table bases, and storage pieces that add natural warmth to the interior (such as the SURBEANIE WOOD AND RATTAN CONSOLE). Every element was chosen to ensure that the colours, decorative details and furniture give the space a unique and welcoming personality.

At Matacandela, we deliberately avoided:

Adding too many tables just to increase the number of covers: in an intimate restaurant, guest comfort and a sense of privacy are far more important than squeezing in a few extra seats.
Using cool colour palettes or bulky furniture: these would have made the compact space feel impersonal and overcrowded.
Overdecorating the interior: the goal was to create character through carefully selected details, not by overwhelming the space.
Reducing the natural light: the colour palette and materials were chosen to enhance the daylight coming through the façade rather than block it.
Using heavy, visually dominant furniture: instead, we opted for slim profiles and woven rattan backrests to keep the space feeling light and open.
