Color will be a trend in decoration

In 2023, color is coming home. On a base of neutral tones that remind us of nature will predominate, such as earth tones, grays, blues and greens. And watch out for greens, which have been making waves for some years now and do not seem to have any intention of coming down from their throne. This is demonstrated by pieces such as the Artisan rattan lampshade in Mediterranean style, and covered in an unexpected greenish color.

We will even see terracotta on walls, thanks to a very singular protagonist: clay paint from manufacturers such as Ecoclay, which we keep seeing in the projects of the best architects and interior designers. The same goes for bricks and slabs made of earth, also ubiquitous in their designs. The reason? These solutions create organic, non-toxic interiors that seductively replicate the imperfection of nature.

One step further is granate. Another tone that is coming in strong this season. It shines especially in upholstered chairs, and it is an absolute must if we combine it with iconic designs, one of those that never go out of style. An example? The Ranger Elbow chair, inspired by Hans J. Wegner’s original design and made of solid ash wood.

Rich, organic textures will be a decoration trend in 2023

The trend in upholstered chairs gives us an idea of warmth that will continue throughout the house. Textured rooms are in, a concept that could very well start with the new trendy walls, such as the aforementioned clays.

But they also attract the slight ‘imperfections’ of the ‘cement effect’ of other paints and materials, such as plaster, mortar or tadelakt, an artisanal lime coating from Marrakech that is shiny and practically impermeable and is made from a mixture of clays, colorants and natural pigments (which often include marble dust).  The surface is then rubbed with a black olive oil soap, which gives it its impermeability.

On the floor, we can go for the charismatic irregularity of oak parquet, or for the artisanal look of handmade terracotta floors from such arty and original manufacturers as todobarro, whose completely sustainable methods have a tradition of thousands of years.

Local stone also triumphs – from Marès, for example, in Mallorca, or Campaspero, in Valladolid, with its rough and real feel. But also the organic touch of natural materials such as ceramics, linen, leather or wool, especially bouclé wool. Yes, because the ‘sheepskin’ upholstery continues its reign for another year, covering from sofas to chairs. A perfect example? The Amets chair. Contemporary style, with tubular steel structure finished in black paint and seat and back upholstered in textile.

What materials will be the trend in decoration for 2023? Natural, handcrafted and sustainable

As can be seen from the above, the protagonists of 2023 will be natural, handcrafted and sustainable materials. Wood, in this sense, continues to vibrate high, especially when it is recycled.

The Minadra table is a good example of this, as it is handcrafted from old wood and recycled wood, so it has attractive marks and irregularities typical of the wear and tear caused by the passage of time.

One of the decoration trends for 2023 will continue to be the Bold trend.

Curves are in. Yes, because since we detected the Bold trend in the summer of 2021, it has only grown. This influence, which seems to fly over all areas of decoration, eliminates edges and right angles, and transforms them into sinuous and organic shapes that invite rest and relaxation.

One of the most recent examples is the Sain Clinic, a work of the renowned architect Héctor Ruiz Velazquez that introduces curves in the structure of the project itself. In this way, he creates a welcoming, friendly space that embraces and cares for without the need for extras, only with its mere forms.

At home it is more difficult to transfer the curves to the space, but we can introduce them with simplicity in the furniture. To achieve this, team up with chairs like the elegant and fresh Bilima, Nordic style, with beech wood structure and seat upholstered in black PU.

Mediterranean style will continue to be a Trending Topic as a decoration trend in 2023

At the heart of the Mediterranean aesthetic is a sense of ‘handmade‘ that celebrates the unhurried nature of craftsmanship, the imperfections and authenticity visible in the materials, which places value on the local. Therefore, it is a style that calls for its scepter with the calm and simplicity that are characteristic of it, without stridency, but with a forcefulness based on those materials that we have already seen that rule in 2023: stone, marble, clay, wood, vegetable fibers…

Therefore, in Mediterranean style spaces, which are often found in rustic environments -although not only-, it is not uncommon to find those pieces that make the space feel especially comfortable and cozy, as it seems that they have been with us all our lives.

And be careful, because after the constant revisions and updates to which it has been subjected, this decoration is nowadays very contemporary. This is attested by projects such as PA 26, a house by the young Maaf Estudio office located in Murcia, in which light colors and natural materials typical of this trend triumph, while one of its maxims is true in a very original way: the fusion between interior and exterior space.

To create a Mediterranean-style décor at home, you can start by adopting pieces such as the Petalia headboard, made of bamboo and natural rattan pith, which also shines with its warm rounded shapes.

However, although the Mediterranean style is one of those that will predominate especially in 2023, it can be said that the trend, in general, is moving towards an increasingly eclectic decoration, which comes out of the confinement to which minimalism has subjected it for some time to show the true personality of the inhabitants of each home.

2023: the year of ‘sensory’ homes

Natural, bare materials and craftsmanship, which continue on their way to what seems like eternal stardom, set the tone for the homes of 2023. They will be characterized by tactile as well as aesthetic pleasure. Their rough, soft, rough and, in short, real textures will be the protagonists of the new season’s decoration, which will shine in rounded pieces of wood and recycled wood, stone, wool bouclé, clay…

The style will move towards Mediterranean naturalness, without forgetting a trend that is increasingly in force in the homes of the most daring: a new and personal eclecticism, in which color is introduced without fear.
